The Diocese of Rumbek, South Sudan covers Lakes State, Warrap State, and parts of Western and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
The Diocese of Rumbek is one of the few organizations with a well established and functioning decentralized structure in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Warrap and Lakes states of South Sudan, and remains at the centre of ongoing efforts by international and local organizations to improve the post north – south civil war lives of the local South Sudanese communities in the 10 missions within the diocese.
The diocese, which for historical reasons connected with the civil war presently also incorporates part of the Diocese of Wau, covers an area of 120,000 square kilometers (approximately 40% the size of Italy) and embraces a population of approximately 4 million people.
